Rumours abound that Anglo American may soon put their Dawson and Foxleigh coal mines in Central Queensland up for sale.
According to Bloomberg, Anglo American are looking at shedding all coal mine assets that supply domestic markets in a bid to increase profit margins. The information comes from a source Bloomberg claims, “asked to remain unidentified”.
The Financial Times also claims to have received similar information for an unnamed source.
Brisbane-based spokesperson for Anglo American, Jacqui Stambi, was reticent with details when contacted by Bloomberg for comment.
“There is a review of the Australian coal assets but the outcome is yet to be determined,” was all that could be drawn from Strambi by phone.
The rumours come after the company put their Callide and Dartbrook mine projects up for sale in December.
