Launched in 2018, the Stainless Steel PS (Plug Small) and PL (Plug Large) plug and receptacle ranges were AusProof’s first low voltage products to be released to the market. A small and reliable low voltage alternative for the mining industry, AusProof’s Research and Development team spent two years designing, testing and engineering this range in order to provide the industry with a safe and high quality product.
Meeting the needs of its customers is important to AusProof. This ideal plays a key factor during the initial development stages of all AusProof products, and is the reason behind the two-year design and development period of the PS and PL ranges. During this time, foremost in the minds of AusProof’s R&D powerhouse team were three key customer pain points to be addressed with these new products: preventing hot joints, reducing maintenance costs, and lessening downtime. Their solution to these needs was achieved through the design of the PS and PL’s flameproof earth sleeve. Capable of preventing hot joints, if the earth sleeve is damaged it can be easily slipped off and replaced without cable termination, nor does the plug need to be brought above ground.
Later in that same year, after the release of their PS and PL products, AusProof released the PES (Plug Extra Small) Stainless Steel Low Voltage Range, along with the new Quick Release option. Popular with the coal mining and metalliferous industries, the ergonomically designed ratchet-style handle of this release option allows for a simple and effective method of engaging and withdrawing a plug from its receptacle. While the release of the PES range was delayed, the extended development time enabled AusProof to give its metalliferous mining customers something extra, a brand new feature on the market at the time, with this new line-up of products: a 60A range of plugs and receptacles rated to withstand 90A, while also fully retaining their compatibility with AusProof’s 60A plugs and receptacles. Just like its PS and PL counterparts, repairs to the PES plug are simple, and capable of being conducted at any time onsite, only with a slight difference. Rather than replacing the outer earth sleeve, it is the inner barrel that is replaced.
AusProof’s Low Voltage Stainless Steel Restrained Ranges are applicable for use in mining, tunnelling, and commercial applications, including Group 1 hazardous locations. All plugs and receptacles in the PES, PS and PL ranges are AS/NZS1299 compliant, and feature single piece contacts, easy termination, full solid earth connectivity throughout, phase to earth segregation, and can be purchased with a silicon protection cover. Individually:
- plugs and receptacles in the PES range are rated to 60A and 90A, and are available in 660V and 1,100V, with receptacles offering the Jack-In release option;
- plugs and receptacles in the PS range are rated to 150A, and are available in 660V and 1,100V, with receptacles offering Jack-In and Quick Release options;
- plugs and receptacles in the PL range are available in 4 pin and 6 pin configurations, are rated to 300A and 425A, and are available in 660V, 1,100V and 3,300V, with receptacles offering Jack-In and Quick Release options.
All receptacles in AusProof’s stainless steel low voltage range also offer two additional features:
- a Back-to-Back (B2B) receptacle option; and
- a Receptacle Gland and Bracket (RGB) option.
The RGB has been redesigned and given a sleek new look. Its sturdier and unique new two-piece design eliminates unnecessary flamepaths, resulting in less maintenance and reduces operational risks.AusProof continuously looks for new avenues of research, for that next unexplored direction in plug and receptacle power supply solutions, in order to continue providing the safest and highest possible quality products to the industry.
