Employees could soon disregard resources executive directions without fear of reprisal.

Authorities recently supported new rules that give mine workers the right to ignore supervisors who contact them after hours. The only exceptions are emergencies or welfare matters.

“[We] will work to implement the recommendations, including an enforceable right to disconnect,” Federal Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke said according to News Limited.

The remarks came after the latest Australian Labor Party national conference approved a Senate select committee on work and care report.

The document released in March 2023 recommended giving staff members the right to disconnect from work beyond paid hours, trialling a four-day working week with full pay, and extending paid parental leave for up to 52 weeks.
