Whether you are at home or onsite, Australians will be completing the 2016 Census on August 9.
The 2016 Census of Population and Housing provides a snapshot of the country, helping to shape the nation’s education, health, transport and infrastructure.
People in mining camps, offshore facilities and those on a temporary work visa will be required to fill out their Census.
Data collected will help support future funding decisions for services and infrastructure in mining and offshore communities.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has offered help to those who may be confused as to where they usually live, in particular, mine workers who spend more time on site than at home.
“It is important that people accurately record the address of where they are staying on the night of August 9,” the ABS said.
“Therefore, your spouse/partner or family should not include you on their form if you’re away from home on Census night.
“If you spend, or intend to spend, more than six months of the year away from home, you should mark the box ‘Same as in Question 1’.
“If you spend, or intend to spend, less than six months of the year away from home, you should mark the box ‘Elsewhere in Australia’ and fill in your usual address.”
If you’re onsite on August 9, see your company coordinator if you haven’t received a form.
