A resources giant will grow its fossil fuel operation in Queensland’s Isaac region.
BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) recently confirmed plans to expand its Caval Ridge Coal Mine, 188km southwest of Mackay.
The Horse Pit Extension Project involves constructing site roads, electrical lines, water pipelines and storage areas at the existing work site. Infrastructure items will eventually be relocated as the pit extends and intersects with relevant locations. AMR can reveal the project is worth $100 million a year and will increase the mine’s lifespan by 20 years.
“BMA are developing project approval applications for the state and Commonwealth approval processes to secure future mining approval,” the proponent said in a fact sheet.
“If approved the extension is projected to extend the mine’s life from the 2030s to the 2050s, protecting [about 1500] jobs and royalties for years to come.”
