A coking coal company purchased a fleet of barges to guarantee transport capacity.
Cokal recently acquired a fleet of conventional shallow draft barges and tug boats to move coal from the Bumi Barito Mineral (BBM) and Tambang Benua Alam Raya (TBAR) mines to Batu Tuhup Jetty, 311km north of Palangkaraya.
“This provides guaranteed capacity and availability for transport of coal … at competitive market-based pricing,” company chairman Domenic Martino said in a public statement.
Subsidiary PT Barito Samudera Nusantara (PT BSN) was established to buy and refurbish the barges and tug boats for up to US$1.5 million (A$2.3M). Cokal completely owns PT BSN.
PT BSN will operate as the exclusive logistics support provider for BBM and TBAR.
Martino believes fleet expansion will add further barges and tugs to expand coal transport capacity between Krajan and Batu Tuhup jetties.
“This expansion will ensure uninterrupted coal transport capacity at competitive pricing,” he said.
