Downer yesterday announced it had been awarded a contract valued at approximately $80 million for electrical work on the Yandi Sustaining Project.
The contract is with Hamersley Iron Pty. Limited, which is part of the Rio Tinto group of companies.
The Yandicoogina iron ore mine site (“Yandi”) is located in the central Pilbara region, approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Newman in Western Australia.
Downer will undertake the electrical and instrumentation component of the new process infrastructure at Junction South West and Junction South East, as well as upgrades to the existing facilities at Junction Central and stockyards.
The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer was pleased to build on its strong relationship with Rio Tinto and its expansion in the Pilbara.
Work will commence on site in early 2014 and is expected to be completed in March 2015
