The latest in intelligent equipment will come under the spotlight at Austmine 2019, as the world’s leading miners and METS converge on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 21 to 23.
One of the key themes to be investigated at the conference is how intelligent equipment is taking the mining industry over the next horizon, including a focus on autonomous heavy vehicles, sensors, drilling and artificial intelligence.
Over the years, Austmine has earned a reputation as the industry’s pre-eminent gathering of thought leaders, with the 2019 edition featuring an enviable line-up of guest speakers gathered from around the world.
John Welborn, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer will provide insight from Resolute Mining’s position as the world’s first purpose built, fully automated underground gold mine.
John said, “Mining is adopting new ways of thinking, emerging technologies and using data more intelligently; however, there is a long way to go to see change implemented at scale across the industry.

“We need to re-imagine the whole mining process and see things from a completely new perspective. It’s not about incremental improvement, it’s about metamorphosis. This is what innovation means to me.”
Mike Wundenberg, Vice President Operational Technology and Innovation, Newmont, meanwhile will discuss creating value through technology and innovation, while Brenton Welford, Director of Mining Projects, Airobotics, will delve into the subject of matching operations standards: remote supervisor for safety and productivity.
Finally, Shawn Fernando, Head of Robotics at Woodside Energy, will look at other industries who are leading the charge in technological innovations.
Overall, the topic of intelligent equipment forms just a one portion of the overall key conference themes, with experts examining several issues relevant to the modern industry.
The human element of technology will look at how companies are enabling their workforce to create a culture of bright ideas, while sustainability will come into focus, with insight into how the industry is adopting new technologies relating to renewable energy sources, as well as water and waste management.
