Work on a gas pipeline to supply reliable energy to mines in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia is well underway with the third shipment of 18 metre pipe arriving on site last week.
The 292 kilometre pipeline will transport gas from the current Murrin Murrin/Yarraloola terminus to Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and on to the Tropicana Mine.
WA’s mines minister, Bill Marmion, said the pipeline would create more jobs and greater certainty for the Eastern Goldfields.
“This is great news for Goldfields energy and employment – with up to 300 people working on the pipeline construction this year,” Mr Marmion said.
“It is expected to be finished by December, boosting existing mining operations through potentially cheaper energy and greatly reduced truck numbers on access roads.”
“Unlike the more volatile diesel market, gas gives mining companies energy price certainty,” the Minister said.
“The pipeline will also support and promote more development along the route including the East Tropicana gold deposits, found recently with assistance from the Liberal National Government’s successful Exploration Incentive Scheme.”
