A mining multinational and equipment supplier will deploy hundreds of machines.
Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions and Barrick Gold Corporation recently agreed to globally roll out more than 200 connected underground trucks, loaders and drills.
Both companies will also develop a long-term battery electric vehicle (BEV) strategy and define BEV transition plans that help achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050.
Their newly extended global framework agreement is promised to improve safety, productivity and sustainability through implementing the “latest technology advancements”. It is also touted to slash maintenance costs and meet more key performance indicators.
“This mutually beneficial cooperation will help ensure we continue our growth journeys in the areas of automation, digitalisation and electrification in order to drive improvements across our sites,” Barrick mining executive Glenn Heard said in a public statement.
