A resources executive declared ancient organic matter as absolutely necessary for any international transition towards clean energy.
Sherry Duhe believes coal, gas and other fossil fuels will continue to be essential in achieving global net-zero emission objectives.
“No one can meet those targets without mining,” the Newcrest Mining chief financial officer said at the 2022 International Mining and Resources Conference.
Duhe acknowledged the November Sharm el-Sheikh Climate Change Conference estimates achieving a worldwide net-zero target would cost $125 trillion, and require at least until the year 2050.
More than 7500 delegates confirmed attendance to the Sydney event, which attracted dozens of anti-mining protestors and a large police presence.
“We must ask ourselves do our actions pass the pub test?” Duhe said according to the Australian Associated Press.
