The Board of Glencore PLC has announced the appointment of Martin Gilbert as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company with immediate effect. Mr. Gilbert was appointed Chairman of the Prudential Regulation Authority’s Practitioner Panel in December 2013, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance.
Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of more than 90 commodities. The Group’s operations comprise around 150 mining and metallurgical sites, oil production assets and agricultural facilities.
Commenting on the new appointment, Chairman Tony Hayward stated that the board was pleased with the appointment of Martin Gilbert, who is one of the leading entrepreneurs of asset management and also has a long track record as a FTSE Non-Executive Director. Glencore’s companies employ around 155,000 people, including contractors.
