Iron Ore Sentry Guarding Project Finalist In Innovation Award

Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a leading global provider of comprehensive software solutions for advancing infrastructure, has announced six infrastructure projects in Australia as finalists in Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2018 Awards program. The annual awards program honors the extraordinary work of Bentley software users advancing the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure throughout the world. Twelve independent jury panels of distinguished industry experts selected the 57 finalists from 420 nominations submitted by more than 340 organisations.

For Mining and Offshore Engineering, one finalist announced was CADDS Group Pty. Ltd. – Rio Tinto Iron Ore Sentry Guarding Project – Dampier, Western Australia, Australia

Rio Tinto Iron Ore retained CADDS Group to conduct a site audit for its mine and port facilities in Western Australia, complete site verification for high-risk assets, and replace or update those assets. CADDS Group used Bentley’s BIM and reality modeling technology to create 3D reality meshes for inspection of existing structures, and to create 3D design models for replacement or renovation of the structures where needed.

other finalists include:

Communications Networks
SiteSee – Advancing Telecommunications – Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

SiteSee created highly accurate 3D reality meshes of communication towers for Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications service provider. SiteSee used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to capture images of the towers and Bentley’s ContextCapture software to generate the reality meshes needed to create condition assessment reports. This practice improved precision and reduced the costs and safety concerns involved with typical asset inspections.

Construction

Lendlease Engineering – New bridge over the Richmond River at Broadwater – Ballina, New South Wales, Australia

As part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade in South Wales, Australia, Lendlease Engineering was contracted to design and construct a new bridge over the Richmond River, which was to be designed as a visual landmark. Lendlease used Bentley software to implement a collaborative 3D BIM and 4D construction management strategy.

Northern Engineering & Technology Corporation, MCC – SINO Iron Ore Mine – Perth,
Western Australia, Australia

Northern Engineering & Technology Corporation, MCC used Bentley software to implement a combined design and construction concept that focused on modular construction for the design and construction of the SINO Iron Ore Mine project in Perth, Western Australia.

Project Delivery

Arup – Arup Australasia Project Systems Team – Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Engineering and design firm Arup has established the Australasian Project Systems Team to administer and customise its vast and complex document system. The team uses Bentley’s ProjectWise to provide an integrated Connected Data Environment to support the entire project team, ensuring that best practices are adopted and maintained to reduce potential errors and ensure data reuse for every project.

Reality Modeling

Skand Pty. Ltd. – Building Envelope Inspection Powered by Machine Learning and Reality Modeling for RMIT University Brunswick Campus – Victoria, Australia

As part of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s (RMIT) building inspection project for its ISO-certified asset lifecycle program, Skand captured aerial and ground images of the Brunswick campus buildings. With Bentley’s ContextCapture, Skand used the images to create an inspection report and a 3D reality mesh of the campus for ongoing asset inspection powered by machine learning and reality modeling.
