Do you know how to spot a bully in the workplace? They don’t always conveniently look like Nelson from the Simpsons, but their behaviour towards workmates can be far more damaging than a little push and shove in the playground.
“The Definition of a Workplace Bully” is the topic of a special panel discussion at this years Safety in Action convention being held in Perth on 11-12 June. The panel will comprise some of Australia’s leading experts in the field including Dr Jacquie Hutchinson from the University of Western Australia; Tom Martin, Norton Rose Fulbright; and Executive Director, Rod Astbury from WA Association for Mental Health.
Research indicates that entire organisations and not just individuals may be to blame for workplace bullying. Issues such as workloads, redundancies and pay scales, as well as the more commonly recognised behaviours such as abusive language may all contribute to workplace bullying.
