SunSPoT, a new online platform that can be used to calculate the solar power potential of rooftops – in homes, business, factories or schools – across Australia’s cities, will be launched on Thursday 5 April in Sydney.
The online tool has already discovered enormous untapped potential for solar power installations across a range of buildings in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, with more cities and towns to be added as the programs expands.
It has been developed by the Australian Photovoltaics Institute and UNSW and is being funded by the Australian Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs program. The Hon Paul Fletcher MP, Minister for Urban Infrastructure & Cities, will launch SunSPoT on Thursday.
The launch will take place in Room G17 on the ground floor of the Tyree Energy Technologies Building at UNSW, and will be followed by a tour of the rooftop solar array.
Speaking at the launch will be:
- Hon Paul Fletcher MP, Minister for Urban Infrastructure & Cities
- Prof Mark Hoffman, Dean of Engineering, UNSW
- A/Prof Renate Egan, Chair, Australian Photovoltaics Institute
