The Queensland Government has introduced legislation to provide lifetime care and support to workers who are catastrophically injured in the workplace.
Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said the legislation was part of the National Injury Insurance Scheme, to which Queensland is a signatory.
She said the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation (National Injury Insurance Scheme) Amendment Bill 2016 provides eligible seriously injured workers with a statutory entitlement to treatment, care and support payments.
“This is another important social reform being delivered by the Palaszczuk Labor Government,” she said.
“It will ensure workers who suffer serious personal injuries as a result of work-related events in Queensland get the treatment they need, regardless of fault.
“It follows laws passed last month in Queensland creating a right to lifetime care and support for those catastrophically injured in vehicle accidents.
“Queenslanders who sustain life-changing injuries at work deserve proper care and attention, which is why I’m calling for bipartisan support on this Bill.”
