Minister to speak at Tasmanian Minerals Conference

LongThe Tasmanian Minerals Conference starts tonight with a presentation by Paul Harriss MP, Tasmanian Minister for Resources, at a Welcome Dinner being held at Wrest Point, Hobart.

The Conference will run for two days, closing with a lunch on Friday 9 May.

Terry Long, CEO, Tasmanian Minerals & Energy Council, said the Conference will examine some of the big-ticket items that have direct impact on not only businesses, but also the society in which they operate.

“This includes the provision and use of energy; the opportunity which knocks over the forthcoming four-year election cycle; a SWOT analysis of the forthcoming decade in mineral exploration and a look at some amazing technology from the geological survey,” Long said.

“However, this year we will also put firmly on the agenda one of the big issues affecting Tasmania, the
rest of the nation and the developed world – whether we can afford to let our manufacturing capability
slide into the past and with it the technology, innovation, employment and export earnings which
revolve around it.”
