Engineering contractors, Monadelphous Group, has secured a major iron ore construction contract with Sino Iron at the Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston near Karratha in Western Australia.
The contract, valued at approximately $160 million, comprises of structural, mechanical and piping installation and commissioning works within Concentrator Lines 3 to 6. The work, which will commence immediately, relates to the primary magnetic separation and ball mill facilities and the secondary magnetic separation facilities.
“We are very pleased to be awarded this contract with Sino Iron at Cape Preston, and look forward to participating in the delivery of another phase of development at this significant Western Australian iron ore project”, Monadelphous Managing Director Rob Velletri said.
The massive Sino Iron project is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia.
The project is one of China’s largest investments into the Australian resources sector and is owned by Hong Kong-based CITIC Pacific. Production of magnetite concentrate started in late 2012 and the first shipment was sent to China in 2013.

- At peak construction 4,000 people were employed building the project. In full operation there will be between 1000 permanent positions.
