The South Australian resources sector has received a boost with today’s announcement that OZ Minerals will relocate its head office from Melbourne to Adelaide.
OZ Minerals currently operates the Prominent Hill copper and gold mine and is also developing the Carapateena copper project in the Gawler Craton region of South Australia.
Jason Kuchel, Chief Executive of the South Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy (SACOME), said, “By moving its head office here OZ Minerals will provide additional jobs for South Australians, attract qualified resources professionals to our State, and use an additional range of professional services that may otherwise have been sourced interstate.”
“This comes on top of the company’s strong history of using local suppliers and contractors wherever possible and its deep commitment to training local people and supporting local communities in regional South Australia,” Mr Kuchel said.
“Having new companies establish mines in South Australia will often lead to new head offices also being established here,” he added. “This is another reason why the State government’s consistently supportive strategy for mining is important.”
