Pilbara Iron Company Charged Over Death at Brockman 2 in 2011

justiceThe Pilbara Iron Company has been charged in relation to the death of a mine worker in 2011 by the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP).

Mr Brent Glew died on 16 August 2011 while working in the mobile equipment maintenance workshop at the Brockman 2 mine. He was removing a tilt cylinder from a loader when he was fatally crushed.

DMP Resources Safety Acting Executive Director Andrew Chaplyn said the Pilbara Iron Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto, had been charged under the Mines and Safety Inspection Act for failing to provide a safe working environment.
