Operations remain suspended at a Newcrest mine in Papua New Guinea, after the death of worker on Saturday afternoon.
The Hidden Valley Joint Venture employee was fatally injured in an incident on a road at the mine site, according to a statement released by the company.
“Newcrest is deeply saddened by this incident and we are working with the management of Hidden Valley to understand the circumstances. An investigation is underway,” the statement said.
“We express our condolences and support to the employee’s family, friends and colleagues at the Hidden Valley operation, during this difficult time.”
The Hidden Valley mine is located about 300km northwest of Papua New Guinea’s capital, Port Moresby, and is predominantly a fly-in-fly-out operation with about 1000 employees and 1600 contractors.
