Roy Hill Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Barry Fitzgerald, received dual accolades at Australia’s most prestigious business leadership awards in Melbourne last night.
At the CEO Magazine 2017 Executive of the Year Awards, Mrs Rinehart was honoured as Chairperson of the Year for her tireless work and unyielding belief in a better future for her companies and for Australia.
Mr Fitzgerald was awarded Energy and Resources Executive of the Year and Highly Commended in the CEO of the Year category for his work in establishing the industry-leading, innovative and technologically-advanced Roy Hill project. Roy Hill is a $10 billion iron ore mining and infrastructure operation located in Western Australia’s resource rich Pilbara region.
Mr Fitzgerald said he was honoured and humbled to receive the award in the presence of more than 500 of Australia’s business leaders who exemplify success, innovation and outstanding business acumen.
“I must recognise the vision, drive, persistence, and leadership of our Executive Chairman, Mrs Rinehart, who took on the remote tenements thought to be of little value by others and worked tirelessly to prove the deposit and attract the investment needed to build Roy Hill into the successful operation it is today,” he said.
Mrs Rinehard said, “I would not have been able to achieve this award without all of the hard work from our staff – a huge thank you to Tad and the dedicated and hardworking Hancock and Roy Hill teams, and congratulations to all finalists and
winners.”
