Submissions are now open for the 2018 Queensland Mining Awards, with entries welcomed across
seven categories ranging from time and cost saving to engagement, collaboration and safety.
The Bowen Basin Mining Club is hosting the Awards, and Director Jodie Currie encourages
businesses of all sizes to consider an entry, particularly with the introduction of the new
Collaboration category which is also open to mining companies.
“The process of entering awards and gaining peer recognition is extremely validating for a business,
particularly in the tougher economic climate that we now face. Highlighting your business’s ability to
collaborate with a major player to achieve outcomes or to significantly save costs for a client is well
worth the effort of compiling an entry.”
“Businesses like SMW Group and TEAM Engineering who have won Awards previously are now using
that award to win business through peer recognition of their excellence,” said Ms Currie.
While this is the third time the Awards have been held in line with the bi-annual Queensland Mining
and Engineering Exhibition, this year brings the introduction of a new online submission process and
an exciting partnership with the Queensland Resources Council (QRC), who are co-hosting the event.
QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane highlighted the importance of the Collaboration category with
the sector’s long history of working with contractors.
“Without the smaller companies the larger companies would not be able to carry out all the
resource projects in Queensland spanning from Townsville and Mt Isa in the North through to
Toowoomba and Roma in the South,” said Mr Macfarlane.
Award submissions will be judged by a panel of independent industry experts, to be announced in
early February. One exceptional entry will then be chosen to be named the 2018 Queensland Mining
Contractor of the Year, for outstanding performance across all categories.
Eligible projects must have been completed in a Queensland-based mining operation between April
2016 and December 2017.
Award finalists and winners will be announced at a gala dinner during the 2018 Queensland Mining
and Engineering Exhibition (QME) in Mackay. Tickets for the dinner will go on sale to the public in
late March, with tables already reserved for sponsors and award finalists.
The online submission forms and downloadable entry packs are available at www.bbminingclub.com/awards . Entries are open until Friday 27 April, 2016.
Several category sponsorships are still available for the Gala Presentation Dinner. Contact Jodie
Currie by emailing jodie@bbminingclub.com for a Sponsorship Prospectus.
