Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said support for a robust, safe and environmentally responsible exploration industry was a top State Government priority.
“Western Australia’s resources industry continues to be one of the most important economic and employment drivers across the State,” Mr Marmion said.
“This is why the Liberal National Government continues to invest in programs such as the Exploration Incentive Scheme, red tape reduction, and safety and environmental reforms.”
The Minister made the comments ahead of the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s 2015 Exploration Industry Forum.
The event focuses on protecting workers and the environment, and building on WA’s strong safety record and innovative approach to mining and petroleum development.
“Experts from the Department of Mines and Petroleum will provide important information and guidance for people involved in mineral exploration in this State,” Mr Marmion said.
“It is just one of the ways that the government is supporting a safe, sustainable exploration industry.”
The forum will also highlight environmental management plans and the Mining Rehabilitation Fund, which has returned more than $1.1 billion in old performance bonds to the resources industry during the past two years.
“I encourage industry to participate in events such as the Exploration Industry Forum to help ensure exploration continues to be safe and environmentally responsible,” the Minister said.
The forum will be held at the University Club of Western Australia on June 26.
