The Guinness Book of Records is verifying whether the brand new BelAZ-75710 two-axle all-wheel-drive dump truck has the greatest weight-carrying capacity of any truck in the world. The mammoth truck, purpose-built for mining, can haul 450 metric tons of material in a single load.
As opposed to its predecessors, the new dumper is provided with eight wheels, each designed for about 100 tons of load and has a powerful all-wheel drive train with four electrical machines.
The truck has an AC traction drive system, MMT500. The system is comprised of four 1,200 kW electric motors, two traction generators, three blowers, a brake resistor unit and a control cabinet with two ELFA inverters.
One of the truck’s developers, Siemens, says use of the all-wheel gear has opened up new possibilities of distributing tractive effort to both axles. Further, in case of failure of one of the driving gears, an emergency mode can be activated, which would enable the dumper to get to the service station without being towed.
The project was completed in a comparatively short term: the development process from ordering to commissioning took less than two years.
